Xiaomi’s new Loop LiquidCool Phone Feature with 2x Heat Dissipation of Regular Chambers
On November 5, Xiaomi announced a new tech feature called the Loop LiquidCool. The company claims it should ensure the effective cooling of phone processors. The new means of heat dissipation that the Chinese smartphone giant presented is supposed to separate the hot air and cooling liquid circulations that improve smartphone heat convention. Similar to cooling technologies utilized in the aerospace sphere, the Loop LiquidCool Technology is a new approach to the conventional vapor chamber. It relies on the capillary effect, moving the liquid cooling agents to the source of heat, vaporizing them and subsequently diffusing the heat towards a cooler spot. Xiaomi is planning to add the Loop LiquidCool Technology to its phone devices in the latter half of 2022.
Xiaomi revealed the new feature in a blog post. According to the corporation, the new technology offers twice the cooling capacity of the conventional VCs (vapor chambers). An annular heat pipe system, which is part of the Loop LiquidCool Technology, features liquid pipes, gas, a condenser, an evaporator and a refill chamber. When the smartphone is overloaded, the evaporator's refrigerant turns into gas and evaporates, being subsequently dispersed to the condenser, and then condensed into liquid. The liquid substance is later absorbed and gathered through small refill chamber fibers, thus making it self-sustaining.
Company experts say that the novel tech feature uses a method similar to VC liquid cooling. The conventional VC systems, however, have no separate channels for liquids and gases. In this new cooling mechanism, the special gas pipe design in the pump is supposed to decrease air passage resistance by 30% and raise the heat transfer capacity up to 100%.
The Tesla Valve microstructure provides circulation in one direction, which is said to prevent heat from reverse movement, and raise the capability of regular vapor chambers to dissipate heat.
In addition, the company revealed the new technology on a customized Xiaomi MIX 4, installing the new Loop LiquidCool Technology solution instead of the original vapor chamber. Xiaomi reports that heating did not exceed 47.7°C, and the processor temperature was 8.6 °C lower than the standard version after 30 minutes of Genshin Impact running on 60 fps and maxed-out graphics settings.
