Xiaomi named #1 Global Smartphone Brand for the First Time: June results
For the first time ever, Xiaomi is officially the #1 smartphone brand in the world. June 2021 sales results testify to this fact. The Chinese firm boasts the sale of the most smartphones ever that month. The most recent data provided by Counterpoint reveals that Xiaomi is showing great numbers in the markets where Huawei and Honor traditionally lead, such as Africa, China, Europe, and the Middle East. Established in 2010, Xiaomi sold its first smartphone in 2011.
Xiaomi’s June sales grew by 26% over May, leading it to own a solid 17.1% market share in smartphone sales all over the world. Samsung is second, with a 15.7% percent market share and Apple third with 14.3%. Counterpoint data further demonstrates that in the Q2 2021, Xiaomi was the #2 global brand in smartphone shipments.
Xiaomi has sold around 800 million smartphones globally since its first 2011 smartphone.
Counterpoint’s Research Director mentioned that Xiaomi has filled the space left after Huawei’s exit in markets like Africa, China, Europe, and the Middle East. In June 2021, sales in China, India and Europe have all added to Xiaomi's surge. For instance, in China, Xiaomi was the fastest growing brand in June 2021 due to the sales volumes of Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9, and the Redmi K series. In addition, Samsung production was down due to the new COVID-19 wave in Vietnam, which manufactures many of its phones.
The firm also emphasizes that depending on the pandemic in Vietnam, Samsung may continue to lag behind Xiaomi. If and when the situation improves, however, Samsung may regain its lost positions.
