Xiaomi Beats Apple, Is Now #2 Smartphone Maker in the World, Samsung Remains on Top
Xiaomi gained on Apple in Q2 2021 and is now officially the #2 smartphone maker in the world market research experts report.
Xiaomi is in second place for the first time ever. It now sends out 17% of global smartphone shipments, up 3% from Q1 2021.
In Q2 global smartphone shipments increased 12%, while Samsung Electronics is in the lead with 19%, and Apple in the third spot with a 14% share.
The average Xiaomi phone is about 40% to 75% cheaper compared to Samsung and Apple, respectively, and Xiaomi's major priority this year is to boost the sales on the high-end.
The company's shipments soared over 300% in Latin America, 150% - in Africa, and 50% - in Western Europe, stated the Thursday report from Canalys.
Vivo's and Oppo's growth momentum was powerful enough to bring them among the top five smartphone makers. Both Oppo and Vivo secured a 10% share of global shipments in Q2 2021, which brought them to #4 and #5 spots, respectively.
The leader, Samsung, enjoyed a steady 15% growth in year-on-year shipments, while Xiaomi's grew by a stunning 83%, and Apple showed a marginal 1% increase. Shipments made by Oppo and Vivo grew by 28% and 27%, respectively.
