The new Xiaomi - will it stick?
Who knows what the new Xiaomi patent will become – the next fresh discovery in design of smartphones or an unusual idea bound to remain just an idea. The foldable screen that wraps around the phone is not the strangest concept, but the 5 pop-up cameras on the large pop-up module are a bit strange. It’s as if the company resolved to take the latest trend in phone design and take it to the outermost level of absurdity.
TigerMobiles.com platform found the patent on the website of China’s IP national agency CNIPA. It was registered in August 2018, but it has not been implemented as of this time. Xiaomi is similar to other Chinese phone manufacturers in its desire to attract more attention with its unusual design in a market that’s becoming very saturated. In early 2018 it teased a twice-foldable smartphone, but there was no camera in it, which most found unusual and inconvenient, despite the overall interesting design. Later on, the company revealed the Mi Mix Alpha, a concept phone with a price tag of US$2,800 and a screen that folds around the body.
