The Introduction of the Apple Watch Series 4 Features wider display, ECG, and ceramic/Sapphire back
Unlike the previous years where Apple made just minor changes to its Apple Watch, the recent version 4 has featured some major changes. Although the design concept remains unchanged, the watch has increased in size giving room for a larger display. Now, users can choose between the 40mm and 44mm versions which give the room for 35% and 32% larger panels respectively.
As you might have expected, the new WatchOS leverages the larger screen to display more relevant information to the user. However, the always-on display feature is still missing from the watch. The good news is that all the series 4 watches are shipped with ceramic and sapphire backs in contrast to the series 3 that reserves the premium back for LTE versions. The crown feature has also been upgraded with features that make its rotation to be fun and functional. The speaker which is 50% louder is also a welcome development.
The latest Apple S4 model is powered by a dual-core 64-bit CPU and a more robust GPU. The CPU and GPU of the Apple S4 perform twice better than the previous Apple S3 model. The new watch has all the features of the previous model with a little twist of making the centerpiece to function as an ECG with improved sensitivity. The ECG feature works when you place a finger on the crown for 30 seconds. The crown is interconnected with the electrodes at the back of the device and can perform advanced heart-related analysis such as the detection of irregularities in the heart rhythm. Apple promises to add new enhancements to the exceptionally accurate ECG function which has been approved by FDA.
The motion tracking function of the device has been enhanced to detect a fall, thanks to the all-new gyroscope sensor in the smart device. For instance, if you had a nasty fall during your morning workout, the smartwatch can prompt you to dial 911. If the person remains motionless for more than five seconds, the Siri will dial 911 automatically.
In spite of the larger screen and the upgraded sensors, Apple still affirms that the user of the Apple S4 can expect the same 18-hour battery backup time of the previous S3 models. Moreover, the Bluetooth 5.0 LE connectivity feature helps to enhance the battery uptime.
If you own an Apple smartwatch and you are considering making an upgrade to the new model, we have good news for you. The S4 version is compatible with all the straps of the previous model. Moreover, you have the option of using the new leather straps.
Regarding the pricing and availability, the GPS-only version starts at $399, while the base price for the LTE version is $499. Users can pre-order these awesome gadgets starting on Friday, September 14, but the full launch of both models will occur on September 21, 2018. The new WatchOS 5 with the fresh user interface and app features will be released on September 17, just four days before the Apple S4. Apple promises to launch the new series of its smartwatch in 26 countries concurrently. However, the cellular version will only be available in 16 countries.
