Unfortunate news just came in as Sony’s financial report for Q2 2018 demonstrates sad results in the already depressed smartphone segment. Compared to Q2 2017, the sales of mobile devices is down 1.4 million to just 2 million units. This constitutes a significant 27% decline year-to-year, and amounts to USD 1.18 billion revenue for the Japanese manufacturer. The regions that have shown the weakest results are Europe and Japan, while the situation in the rest of the world remains steady. Sony now has to recalculate its sales and revenue estimates for the current year.
The OEM projected 10 million in sales in 2018, and revenue in the amount of USD 5.74 billion, yet considering Q2 results, revenue is slated to be down, with adjusted sales at 9 million, and revenye at USD 5.47 billion.
Sony will aim to cut costs to make up for the loses and make the following two quarters profitable. 2019 is supposed to get a boost from 5G launch, and this segment should account for the growth of company’s revenue. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for Sony’s sake.
