Smartphone prototype with next generation UD fingerprint scanner demonstrated by Xiaomi president
Xiaomi is well-known to most for disrupting the market with its underpriced phones and aggressive marketing strategies. However, the firm is currently making a move to catch up with other market players as it implements technological innovations. No, indeed, Xiaomi was not the first one to feature a tall screen, a notch or dual cameras, but the company is working its way to the avant-garde.
The video published by Lin Bin (Xiaomi president and co-founder) on Weibo shows the smartphone prototype with the next generation fingerprint scanner under the display. Just one tap of a finger, and after the fingerprint is set up, it can be used to unlock the screen at any spot on the display.
The company CEO reported that the unlocking area is 25mmx50mm, a five-fold increase of the current UD area, and over as many as 15 times the size of the standard scanner utilized by Xiaomi. The video makes a point of demonstrating the speed and reliability of the feature, where one doesn’t even need to be looking at the phone in order to unlock it.
The feature does feel wonderful, and has been tested on a device that looks like Xiaomi Mi 8, Lin Bin states that if consumers are really receptive to the innovation, the scanner will become a part of the devices to come. For now, we have the vivo APEX concept to wonder about.
