Published : Tuesday, 16 October, 2018
It’s hard to believe, but the second-generation Xiaomi Black Shark 2 may well be launched very shortly after the initial model, industry rumors suggest. The original Xiaomi Black Shark, launched this April, targets primarily high-end gamers. The next generation may arrive as early as October, says an unconfirmed source. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 was announced by an anonymous online poster who claims that it’s coming very soon.
The original emerged as an affordable option to other branded gaming devices by Razer, Asus, etc. Now the new and improved Xiaomi model may be the one to come to equal them in technical specs. Several days ago, the phone was noticed on TENAA, and its key specifications were revealed.
Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Gaming Phone Specifications
Supposedly, the TENAA listing of the AWM-A0 model refers to the Black Shark 2. Its features include a 1080 x 2160 pixel, 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The display will reportedly be gaming-optimized, with DCI-P3 and color gamut of up to 97 percent. It may even be possible (although unlikely) that the display will also offer 120Hz refresh rate similar to that installed in Razer Phone 2.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and Adreno 630 GPU will be the drivers of the powerful Xiaomi Black Shark 2. It is also likely to feature the liquid cooling tech sported by the Asus ROG Phone. As much as 8GB of RAM may be packed inside, and the battery pack is an impressive 4000mAh. Fast Charging support is a possible option.
The imaging power of the upcoming Xiaomi Black Shark 2 is still unclear, but the TENAA lists vertically-stacked dual rear cameras. Another feature expected in the device is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, rather than a front-mounted one, like on its predecessor. The handset measures 160 x 75.26 x 8.7 mm.
Black Shark 2 Launch Date, Pricing
The mysterious poster who leaked this info claims that the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 smartphone will launch on October 23. In fact, the company has not even officially acknowledged the existence of the Black Shark 2. It’s also very strange that the new model comes so shortly after the first, thus, the credibility of this information is questionable.
The first-generation 6GB Black Shark sold in China for CNY 2,999 (»Rs.32,000). The 8GB version was initially priced at CNY 3,499 (»Rs.37,000). Curiously, the Android gaming phone launched exclusively for the Chinese market, while the second one is likely to be sold in several international markets. The price is likely to be in a similar range.
