There’s a hot new trend that involves smart speakers, but home assistants that sport displays are still not seen frequently. Echo Show is Amazon’s contribution, and Lenovo is not far behind in gaining a share of the market, as it launches its Google Assistant-equipped Smart Display. All the Q&A are visualized on the screen, and detailed cooking directions also come up per request.Google Assistant is at the core of Lenovo’s new gadget. Equipped by a Qualcomm Hub Platform that works on Snapdragon624 utilizing octa-core CPU, 2GB RAM and storage of 4GB. There’s also an option of Google Duo-supported video calls, and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac networks.
The 5MP front camera allows to record video at up a resolution of up to 720ppi. There is a physical shutter you can use to cover the camera, and a mute key for the microphone, which is a very thoughtful and reasonable step to take on the part of the manufacturer with its customers’ privacy in mind.
The innovation that the new device offers is in the visualization options. There’s visual info on the weather and traffic in the morning, after you greet it with “Hey Google, good morning,” rather than receiving the same information in audio from Google Home.
3 months of YouTube premium subscription comes with the gadget purchase, and it is also compatible with HBO Now, Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music and YouTube Music. Audiobooks and podcasts can also be played, yet there’s no visual representation of these processes.
There’s a choice of an 8” or 10” display, which brings the Lenovo Smart Display price to either $199.99 or $249.99. It is already sold online by the manufacturer, and is slated to begin shipping in August. Both are white in the front, and the back of the smaller version is gray plastic, and the larger device sports a wood-like texture.
