KGI started the rumor mill for the new Series 4 Apple Watch in the middle of the Apple event’s bustle. KGI’s recent report indicates that Apple plans to launch newly designed Apple Watch lines this fall. The new range will feature a longer battery life, a larger display and better health monitoring.
Since their first-generation, Apple Watches have had the same basic design, but it seems likely that Series 4 will be different.
Ming-Chi Kuo says the latest watches will have an increase of 15% in the display size with the launch in the 3rd quarter of 2018. All current Watches have a screen size of either 38 or 42mm. Kuo, whose track record is better than most when it comes to news on Apple products, did not say if the overall product would also be bigger.
It could be that the latest form factor will incorporate a thinner bezel. This would result in the Apple Watch Series 4 having a bigger display, but the overall size staying the same. The report does however also indicate increased battery capacity. If this is the case, it would indicate that the overall size will in fact increase.
The analyst does not go into detail regarding other details of the product, but makes vague references to improved health sensors in the new Apple Watch.
Kuo does however believe that adding new sensors apart from heart rate monitoring and a more trendy design in combination with lower prices for previous models could drive sales of the Apple Watch to new heights.
KGI predicts that Apple Watch sales will reach the 22 to 24 million unit mark this year, an increase of roughly 30% compared to 2017. Kuo also expects Apple Watch sales to top 50 million units per year in the longer term.
