Mi 6X Snapdragon 660 AIE with two 20MP Cameras Launched

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 6X in line with their philosophy to make products with “the same specifications, at half the price”. The Mi 6X takes exceptional portrait photos, as it features a 20MP camera in the front, as well as a dual rear camera setup with 12MP and 20MP sensors. All cameras are fully driven by AI software and the phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. While offering all these features, the Mi 6X will retail for about half the price of comparable competitors.
Xiaomi has also announced that they will keep their net profit margin after tax for all their hardware, including lifestyle products, IoT and smartphones to a maximum of 5%. This initiative reflects the CEO and founder Lei Jun’s vision of “innovation for everyone.”
Although the 5.99” Mi 6X has a 18:9 full-screen display, its dimensions are virtually the same as a phone with a 5.5” screen running at an aspect ratio of 16:9 .
Mi 6X is available in 6GB + 128GB, 6GB +64GB and 4GB + 64GB models.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 AIE SoC, the Mi 6X features enhanced AI functionality and uses a 3010 mAh battery, supporting QC 3.0 to charge to 50% in a mere 30 minutes. The Mi 6X also has an integrated Xiao AI voice assistant that is able to understand hundreds of instructions in 6 categories. The camera will also translate user manuals and menus when pointed at them. The AI shopping function can identify objects that appear on the screen while watching videos and make instant online purchases. The “AI Identify” feature will calculate calories in certain foods.
The camera sensors built into the Mi 6X are manufactured by Sony, a leader in this field:
· Sony IMX 376 - Front 20MP Camera:
· Sony IMX 376 & IMX 486: Rear 20 MP & 12 MP Camera
The Mi 6X’s front camera uses a Sony IMX376 sensor with pixel binning technology. This combines the data from 4 pixels and creates a large 2.0µm pixel, greatly improving the light sensitivity. This enables the user to capture better videos, and images that are brighter and clearer in conditions with less light. The 20MP sensor will capture every detail when used in bright sunlight, so it picks up amazing minuscule details such as a hair strand.
Xiaomi’s scene detection technology driven by AI is used on the camera in front. This allows it to distinguish between twelve different scenes so that the resulting images can be optimized. This feature allows the camera to separate the subject and the background effectively, correctly identifying even small details such as popular hand gestures and hair accessories as forming part of the subject.

Scene detection using AI is used to optimize images intelligently after it has been captured. The dual camera configuration features a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor and a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor, allowing the phone to decide automatically which should be used as the primary sensor based on the lighting conditions. The IMX376 combines data from 4 pixels into 1 in low-light night shots, generating a large 2.0µm pixel to capture light more effectively. When used with the open f/1.75 aperture, the Mi 6X can capture clear images, even in the most difficult lighting conditions.
The Mi 6X has a beautiful and stylish full metal body and a large 5.99” full screen display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, packaged in the thickness of mere 7.3mm and weighing 168g. It also sports a Type-C USB port.
Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun has a special place in his heart for Wuhan University. In 1991, he obtained his BSc degree in Computer Science and then set up the Lei Jun Scholarship Fund, donating RMB 99,999,999 yuan for the construction of the technology & science building. As he studied, Lei Jun was inspired by the book “Fire in the Valley” and his goal became to create a company that could compete with the best in the world.
