IDC: Global smartphone market declines after China had a slowdown
IDC recently shared some information about the smartphone market in Q1 2018. The Chinese market had a lot of influencer here, as the China slowdown brought a decline of 2.9%. The thing to note here is that they only shipped around 100 million phones or less, not a lot and that’s definitely bringing in some issues in that perspective. In the first quarter, Samsung shipped 2 million devices less, but Apple brought in 1.4 million more units when compared to the same quarter last year. Huawei retains a 11.8% market share. Xiaomi is getting its share too, as they do have a massive 87.8% increase for the first quarter. Oppo has a pretty good growth, but nothing extremely special.
In total, manufacturers shipped around 112.7 million phones, which is a strong number still. Samsung is still seen as a leader, mostly because its new flagships were launched earlier during the year. They also have the J and A series that are great for the emerging markets in particular.
Apple, on the other hand, has its iPhone X, which is very impressive and also quite expensive. Huawei offers some nice phones, and they are actively trying to catch up to Apple, albeit they have a very different approach when compared to them.
