Huawei aims for a 50% share of Chinese smartphone market in a drive to surpass Samsung in global sales

The China-based global telecom leader is set to ship 260 million handsets internationally this year.
The Huawei brand is now the third largest smartphone vendor after Samsung and Apple.
According to sources from the company, Huawei is targeting to take over 50% of the Chinese smartphone market by the end of 2019. After achieving this feat, the company will surpass South Korea’s Samsung as the global smartphone leader.
This move will strengthen the Shenzhen-based company market share in the China smartphone market from its current 34%. This consolidation move is coming at the backdrop of a blockade in the US over Huawei 5G-enabled telecom network equipment.
Chinese homegrown mobile phone manufacturers have successfully nullified the opinion that they are only good at producing inexpensive, low-grade phones. This same mindset has limited sales in other consumer categories such as personal computers, home appliances, computer electronics, automobiles and many more. China Mainland consumers largely prefer to patronize famous brands from Japan, US, and Europe.
China home-grown brands such as Lenovo, Haier, and recently Huawei are at the forefront of nullifying the misinformation about Chinese brands. They have invested in R&D projects, developed advanced and innovative products and expanded their operations on a global scale.
The bigger Chinese smartphone manufacturers that have huge advertisement budgets have acquired a large portion of the local market through aggressive marketing. The smartphone offerings by these vendors have advanced features and offer a wide range of models that entices everyone; from students to affluent buyers.
China now boasts of many successful home-grown smartphone brands such as Vivi, Oppo, and Huawei that can rival global brands like Apple, Samsung, and LG Electronics.
Huawei is presently the third largest smartphone manufacturer following Samsung and Apple. Reports by industry researcher IDC claimed that in the previous year, Huawei increased its global market share to 14.7%, while Apple and Samsung market shares are 14.9% and 20.9% respectively.
