Features to expect in the three new iPhones to be launched this year
· Apple to release three new modes of iPhone this fall.
· A new three-lens camera system is one of the expected notable feature upgrades.
· Additional feature updates may include frosted glass design and a novel feature that enables the iPhone to charge other products.
Typically, September has always been the time that Apple launches new models of iPhone and 2019 is set to follow the same schedule. Analysts expect the leading phone manufacturer to launch three models, just like it did over the last two years. Sources have it that one of the most prominent changes will be a novel triple lens camera system.
The effect of Apple iPhone launches reverberates across news outlets, the community of smartphone users, and even Wall Street is not left out. The impact of the 2019 launch is expected to be stronger as Apple is struggling to cope with dwindling iPhone sales. The January report of the company stated a 15% decline in iPhone sales compared to the same period in the previous year. Even though other products such as the Apple Services Division have grown significantly and reached a record high of $10.9 billion, the iPhone is still the highest source of revenue for Apple.
In recent times, major rival companies such as Samsung and Huawei have generated major buzz in the market with foldable phones. The smartphone community is waiting for Apple to see what innovations the company brings to the table.
Taking inference from rumors and various reports, we should expect the following in 2019 iPhones launch.
Three new iPhone models
Just like in the previous two years, Apple is expected to launch three new phone models this year. Leading sources such as The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg affirmed this speculation in different reports. In 2017, Apple launched the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. The following year 2018, the company debuted the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.
A triple-camera system
The new Apple iPhone may feature three back cameras just like phone model from rival companies, Samsung and Huawei. News sources have it that the premier high-end iPhone and successor of the iPhone XS Max will be the one to feature the triple camera system. Although Bloomberg did give hints that the less expensive iPhones may also have the triple-camera feature.
While analyzing the technical details, Bloomberg asserted that the triple-camera system will give the phone a better field of view and provide enhanced zoom shots.
All three models to have the same screen sizes and perhaps the same OLED displays.
According to reports by 9to5Mac, Ming-Chi, an analyst with the TF International Securities affirmed that the 2019 iPhones will maintain the same size as the current phones. Considering his previous predictions, Ming-Chi has proved to be a reliable source of news regarding Apple products.
Moreover, there is a high likelihood that Apple will use the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen for all the tree models of 2019 iPhones. This approach is different from the current products style whereby the entry-level iPhone makes use of the liquid crystal display (LCD). The OLED the screens provide superior color and contrast experience compared to their LCD counterpart.
Electronic Times, a tech media publication from Korea reports that Apple may likely use OLED screens for all three models in 2019. In contrast, Kuo predicted that the lower-end model will have an LCD display.
An enhanced Face ID camera
There will likely be an upgrade to the facial recognition system of the iPhone in the next product rollout. The enhancement is likely to reduce the dependency on visible light in the user environment. MacRumors reported the upgrade and claimed it will improve the user experience. Bloomberg also published a report affirming the imminent improvement in the Apple Face ID feature.
It is expected that the 2020 iPhones by Apple will feature sophisticated 3-D cameras. These types of camera has better-augmented reality performance. However, Kuo and Bloomberg reported that this new technology will most likely be seen in iPads first.
No fast-charging brick included
Reports from MacOtakara gave hints that the new iPhones will likely use the same 5W charging brick which the brand phone has been using over the years. While the fast charging bricks are now commonplace with some Android models, iPhone users will have to purchase an 18W charger to charge their phones faster.
The ability to charge other devices
In a report by 9to5Mac, Kuo was quoted to have predicted that the three models of the iPhone will have the bilateral charging feature. This feature enables the phone to charge other electronic devices. Samsung Galaxy S10 already has this feature, it can charge Qi standard compatible devices. Typical examples are the Galaxy Watch Active and the Galaxy Buds that charge when placed at the back of the Galaxy S10.
May switch to a USB-C phone interface
Apple devices are usually charged with its own proprietary Lightning charger, but that could be changing soon. Bloomberg reported that some 2019 version of the iPhone with the USB-C charging interface has been tested by Apple. However, this news conflicts the Kuo prediction that the 2019 iPhone will still use the Apple Lightning charger interface.
A similar visual design with frosted glass
We do not expect a radical change in the design of the 2019 iPhone. It will still look more like its predecessors which are the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. Bloomberg reports that the new iPhone will look similar to the present models. However, there are signs that Apple is planning more radical change in the design for 2020 models which will support the 5G technology.
On the other hand, Kuo gave pointers to the fact that the new models may have a frosted glass casing but will retain the same notch which is close to the top of the display.
A new processor, battery upgrade, and other changes
Bloomberg reported that there is a high likelihood that the new 2019 iPhone will be powered by a new processor just like Apple does with its new phone models. This news aligns with the Kuo report that indicates some updates to the phone’s internal mechanisms. MacRumous outlines the new changes as increased battery capacity, and an Ultra Wide Band component that enhances indoor positioning and navigation. Moreover, the iPhone base model successor is expected to have 4GB RAM in contrast to the current 3G in the iPhone XR.
