Apple is Going to Make AirPods Water Resistant
Apple Inc. plans to upgrade its famous AirPods, according to some sources. It is expected that the company will be launching the updated versions of its wireless headphones on a regular basis, as it currently does with the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
Word is that the Cupertino company will release an upgrade for the AirPods not later than the next year, and the model will come with a new wireless chip, and will be water resistant. However, the new headphones will not be intended for swimming under water similarly to the Apple Watch. The device will be more likely to endure spills and splashes.
Reportedly, with the new AirPods, Siri will become voice-activated, as it already is on iPhones and other devices. The headphones will have an upgraded Bluetooth chip, W2, which is also implemented in the recent Apple Watch model.
The first AirPods were launched in 2016 and became one of the most popular Apple products right away. Following their success, Bose, Google, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony introduced wireless headphones as well. But according to NPD Group, since 2016, Apple’s got 85% revenue from the overall wireless headphones sales in US.
Luca Maestri, Apple Chief Financial Officer, speaking to analysts earlier this month said that wearables are the second-largest source of the company’s income, outpaced only by iPhone. Indeed, for the products like the AirPods, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Beats, iPod Touch, and HomePod, Apple received a $5.5 billion revenue in Q1 2018. Apple is also working on a mixed reality headset to be introduced in 2020.
