Apple Event 2021: all announcements + new iPad and iMac, AirTags and purple iPhone 12
The iMac finally gets an overhaul, AirTags are real and the iPad pros get the M1 chip. And finally, Apple TV 4K gets a cool new Siri remote.
The Apple store went down and fans of the company from all over the world watched as the Apple event has its first big launch of 2021 in a big, colorful reveal. Apple treated their fans to everything they've been expecting for ages which include overhauled iMacs, the inclusion of the M1 Chip in a rainbow of colors with new iPad pros launched with M1 chips, new Apple TV 4K, and a purple iPhone 12 amidst other exciting new products.
Much to the disappointment of Apple fans all over the world, the company did not launch the new iOS 14.5. However, the company has indicated that the new operating system will be launched in the coming week. The AirTags retail at $29 and enter the Find My network to track items and not people for privacy reasons. The AairTags are also available in a 4-pack retailing for $99.
The stream started with Tim Cook with the Earth day link where he discussed the company's environmental efforts and segued straight into Apple card updates. The most notable development is that users can now share the card with anyone in their family and it includes parental controls. Unsurprisingly it is called the Apple Card Family.
The Apple podcasts app has also been redesigned with recommendations, subscriptions, and lots more.
As many fans anticipated, the iPad Pro and iMac were launched with the new M1 chips. The iPad pro storage has also been amped up to a 2-terabyte capacity as well as a 16GB memory with 5G connectivity and it has switched to Thunderbolt-4 from USB-C. It also features a new 12-megapixel camera sensor with an ultra-wide field of view that Can pan dramatically to reframe the shot for video calls in a new feature called Centre Stage.
The 12.9 inch iPad Pro was launched with an iPaddy version of the pro display XDR with a 690 liquid retina XDR equipment and micro-sized mini LEDs for full-array local dimming. The iPad Pro has 2500 zones of this feature. The 12.9 inch iPad pro retail price starts at $1,099 while the 11-inch starts at $799.
The slim and brightly colored, completely redesigned iMac with the M1 chip retains some of the issues of the old models which include the ports on the back. The device has slim bezels and its slim profile is sure to please Apple fans everywhere. The iMac starts at a whopping $1,299.
Featuring a 24-inch display in the 21.5-inch form factor with the same characteristics as the previous models, the iMac has the 1080p webcam that debuted in the previous model which benefits from the image-specific intelligent processing in the M1 chip. The new model also comes with a three-mic array as well as many other characteristics tailored for conferences that have been the industry norm for a while.
The speakers on this device are new, featuring a 6-speaker system that generates more powerful sound compared to the previous model as well as spatial audio and better sound accuracy. Apple has indicated how much better the iMac will be for gaming with Apple arcade which is expected to be significantly faster than the old 21.5-inch models across the board.
The device has a MagSafe-like connector with an ethernet connection on the break as well as a color-matched keyboard with touch ID dutifully combined with color-matched trackpads and mice.
As for the iPhone, the omnipresent mobile phone has gotten a new color: purple!!!
A new version of Apple TV 4K was also announced. The smart TV uses the a12 bionic chip present in the iPhone which allows for HDR in high frame rates. The smart TV can also use the sensor and the iPhone's camera to calibrate the TV's picture. Included also is a new remote with a mute button and a TV power button. The announcement of the obligatory Apple TV show included The return of Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso.
