According to OnePlus, the upcoming OnePlus 6T will have an optical in-display fingerprint reader
The upcoming OnePlus 6T has a very promising in-display fingerprint reader feature. What has been of great interest to the eagerly awaiting fans is whether i will actually be a reliable one. The technology is still in the making, and there are lots of things to be sorted out, to work at least as well as your average scanner. In order to make everything clear for the public, the manufacturer has recently claimed that the upcoming model will be home to the optical fingerprint reader type.
If you aren’t up on your mobile phone tech specs, here is some information. There are ultrasonic and optical fingerprint readers, with the latter being the less precise type. Ultrasound allows to create a more accurate image, as it differentiates far better between ridges and pores. A high-quality optical reader can do just as well.
Will this fingerprint reader be of the required quality? OnePlus works jointly with BBK, a company associated with vivo and Oppo. It’s very likely that the technology they are developing for the new OnePlus model will be similar to the already existing ones, so the optical fingerprint reader is likely to resemble that installed in vivo NEX S.
Does this sound promising, you ask? Not really, since many owner testimonies state that it’s not reliable enough and often slower than expected. Certainly, the OnePlus 6T may be actually an improved version, and we may be pleasantly surprised by the results.
We only have to wait for a couple more weeks, until the much-expected OnePlus 6T release on October 30, to evaluate the quality of the announced fingerprint reader ourselves. Let’s hope for the best.
