KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, has recently issued an investor note revealing more details on the latest iPhone refresh. Kuo expects that the 6.1” LCD iPhone announced this year might have support for twin SIM technology, while being priced at as little as $550.In his note, Kuo expects that the LCD iPhone with a 6.1” screen might be made available in 2 models: the first with a single SIM configuration and another model with two SIMs. This could mean that the device has two SIM card slots, but no support for eSIM.
Kuo’s note echoes a Bloomberg report released earlier. This report stated Apple was thinking about twin SIMs for the 6.5” OLED iPhone. He also confirms twin SIM support for the 6.5” device in the latest report, but believes it will be available in the 5.8” OLED model.
KGI notes the new twin SIM iPhone might create a new price sector for the iPhone, as the phone with a single SIM would sell at between $550 & $650, and the twin SIM phone might be sold at between $650 & $750. Kuo says that ultimately the single SIM phone might result in increased market share, both in commercial markets and in China.
Kuo remains upbeat on the 6.1” LCD iPhone’s sales and forecasts that Apple might sell between 100M and 120M units in the year starting in the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Various analysts have revealed details on the iPhone lineup for 2018 and it is generally believed that Apple will have 3 new models available - a 6.5” OLED iPhone X Plus, a brand new 6.1” LCD iPhone and a 5.8” iPhone X refresh.
